Becoming a Yoga Instructor
To become a yoga instructor you must first be a yoga student. Learning the correct poses and breathing techniques are very important especially if you want to become a yoga instructor in the future.
There are several yoga training centers in the nation although they do vary in cost and availability. Most training centers are based upon a first come first serve basis so you should plan your training well in advance of the next season. You will need to take either a two-hundred hour or five-hundred hour training course which can cost up to $8,000 depending upon the training center you select. The most costly training centers have a policy of mandatory on-site housing which is not always required.
You will want to research the center where you are training to make sure that the certificate you earn will be universally accepted as genuine. Without a recognized certificate of training your training will not allow you to teach yoga independently.
Time Frame
You can spend anywhere from a few months to a year working on your training to become a yoga instructor. If you have a fairly intensive program that meets a few times a week then you can be finished with your training in less than six months. If you want a more relaxed schedule then you can find a program that meets only once per week or only on weekends. Some yoga instructors prefer to take their time learning since their training does require some practice before mastery is achieved.
